I’m 70 years old and I spent 38.7 years in the auto manufacturing industry as a machinist repairman. Went I worked in the factory, I also did farming during those years. The first half I raise hog and cattle and corn and soybean and hay for the cattle. The second half just corn and soybeans. I have had my Indiana real estate brokers license for the past 15 years and for the past 12 years, I’ve been in copywriting.

In the process of learning copywriting. I found that I had to re-educate myself. I found that I read too slow. My spelling and grammar wasn’t good which I knew before. I found that there were ways that I could read faster and get more out of it. Here’s something about the written word. 89% is filler, the trick is getting to get at that 4 to 11%. I learned that while in school the way they taught wasn’t a very efficient way of reading. I suppose you must be taught that away because your vocabulary at a young age is not very large. By the time you get out of grade school, your vocabulary is between 15000 and 20,000 words. Which means after grade school you only have to glance at the sentence for it to become clear. We older people got so much that we can share with the younger population of the world. You see I work mostly with my hands. I didn’t write nothing down. By not writing anything down I wasn’t a very good speller. That’s the main reason I chose copywriting as my second career and I learned that copywriting is writing persuasively. The word is written is to get you to do something. I knew that I would have to get out of the mindset that I was in for forty years.

We been talking about retirement. What age is retirement? Standard age is 65, that was our parents age. The baby boomers age has creeped but some of us can retire at 66 or 67. In this program will be talking about retirement and change of career at the age of 50 and beyond.
