Dare To Soar will empower, encourage, and strengthen! Doctor R.C. will share many of the services and resources that promote educational success for the youth today on local, state and national levels.

Terriyln is the 2019 National School Social Worker of the Year and the first Georgian, and first African American recipient. She was also the 67th President for the School Social Workers Association of Georgia, and the 2nd to have served from within her school system as well as the 2nd to have served two terms as the organization’s State President.

She has been employed as a Social Worker for over 20 years, and will share with all who are tuned in valuable lessons that have been learned through her work experiences as to why the primary role of a School Social Worker should be to serve as a liaison/child advocate while collaborating and consulting with not only students, but parents, school administrators, faculty, and the community.
Doctor R.C. will address many of the issues that are faced in society today by our youth. 

Dr. Terriyln C. Rivers-Cannon is a School Social Worker in the Atlanta area. She has devoted the last 18 years to improving the lives of Georgia’s school aged population. Her role is that of a child advocate, providing appropriate interventions and services that help hundreds of children and families each year who are at risk for educational failure.

Terriyln received both her Doctor of Educational Leadership (2007), Educational Specialist (2006) degrees from Argosy University, Sarasota, FL, a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Florida State University- 1990, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Voorhees College in 1990.
She is a certified School Social Worker, Facilitator with the Council on Alcohol and Drugs for both STOP and SUPER Stop Programs (Alcohol & Drug Prevention Program), and Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Instructor for Suicide Prevention. Facilitator as a Darkness to Light Sexual Abuse Prevention Training from Stewards of Children, Certified in Mental Health First Aide, Suicide Prevention Trainer: Lifelines – Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, Trauma/Brain 201 – Building Resiliency, and Check in Connect.
Terriyln’s professional/national memberships are National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Georgia National Association of Social Worker (GA-NASW), National Association of Social Worker-Delegate Assembly, National School Social Workers Association of America (SSWAA) Endowment Board (2018 – 2020), School Social Work Association of Georgia (SSWAG) State President (2017 – 2019), School Social Workers Association of Georgia (SSWAG) Executive Board Member, State Vice President (2016 -2017), District President (2015), District Vice President(2014), and Nomination Committee Chair for School Social Work Association of Georgia(SSWAG). She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), Strathmore World Wide Women of Excellence, Women of Distinction (WOD), and International Association of Women (IAW).

Terriyln’s Pledge:
To have a clear understanding of the multiple challenges that are encountered by our youth today and vows to be that VOICE of ADVOCACY and understanding for all that she may come in contact with. Furthermore, she believes that all stakeholders play a vital role in the potential growth of the village by always, “Paving the Way for Change” by investing in the goals and objectives of those future leaders of tomorrow.
